Here is some information about the way Family Centered Faith Formation works:
Families attend once a month for about 1-1/2 hours.
During the monthly meetings, parents learn on an adult level what their children learn in grade level groups.
This prepares parents to lead two follow-up lessons at home with their children.
The at-home lessons are designed so the whole family learns together. They include short videos, discussion sheets, simple projects, and lots of fun hands-on activities. Parents return homework when they attend each month.
All materials are based on the Scriptures and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Each year a different topic is featured:
The Story of our Salvation found in Sacred Scripture
The Life and Mission of Jesus seen through the Gospel of Matthew
The History of the Catholic Church
The Basic Tenets of our Faith found in the Creed
Prayer and Sacraments
The Moral Life
Families perform two service projects and complete a report on each – one Corporal Work of Mercy and one Spiritual Work of Mercy
If you would like to explore transitioning to this family based model, goals and objectives for each topic and all lesson plans and homework assignments are available for you to consider as we journey together to adapt this program to the needs of your parish.
