Confirmation

Since students actively prepare for two years to receive Confirmation, there is a workshop for Year I and a workshop for Year II. Both workshops require students to attend with their sponsors, or if their sponsor cannot be present, a parent attends instead. The workshops begin with an icebreaker that suggests the message of the workshop, continues with breakout sessions that include games and role playing, and concludes with a meaningful prayer service.
Year I – The point of this workshop is to help students and their sponsors/parents learn more about each other on a practical as well as a spiritual level and through this discovery, help them grow in their relationship with God.
The breakout sessions include:
  • Opportunities for discussion between the adult and Confirmandi regarding their relationship to the special people in their lives and how this point to their relationship with Christ and his Church.
  • A game that explores the teachings found in Scripture and Tradition.
  • An activity to help them prioritize various aspects of their life, helping them find Christ at the center of all that’s important.
  • An activity to help them reflect on the ways the Holy Spirit can help them overcome their specific difficulties.
Year II – The point of this workshop is to learn the importance of loving and forgiving others as God loves and forgives us.
The breakout sessions include:
  • Exploring the concept of the “Five Love Languages”, developed by Dr. Gary Chapman, and applying what they learn to their relationships with others.
  • A game that ultimately helps them see that God loves us in all five languages through the seven sacraments.
  • Exploring the concept of the “Five Languages of Apology”, developed by Dr. Gary Chapman, and applying what they learn to their relationships with others and discovering that the Act of Contrition allows us to apologize to God in all five languages.
Additional Confirmation Workshops
  • Doctrine Review – Several games are used to challenge the Confirmandi and their Sponsors/Parents to learn the basic concepts of our faith.
  • Evan Game – Teaches Confirmandi and their Sponsors/Parents about evangelization and gives them opportunities to practice talking about their faith when challenged. It requires the use of the Bible and the YouCat (Youth Catechism)
