All workshops begin with either an ice breaker, a video presentation or a skit that introduces the topic. They all include hands-on activities in the form of a game, a craft related to the topic, and/or role playing. In most cases, participants take home an object that will help them remember the concept. Morality Workshop – The point of this workshop is to explore the 7 deadly sins and see how each of the Ten Commandments is related to them. Props and science demonstrations make the presentations relatable to all ages in the family. Corporal Works of Mercy Workshop – The point of this workshop is to discover reasons why people fall into poverty and ways we can assist them in their need. A hands-on activity is provided for each of the Corporal Works of Mercy that makes the experience suitable for all ages. Praying with Sacramentals Workshop – The point of this workshop is to become familiar with many different sacramentals and discover the benefits they provide in preparing us to receive the sacraments. It includes a review game for the whole family. There are a variety of ways to present the information from this workshop. It can be presented as one family experience or separated into several different workshops, each highlighting one particular sacramental. Examples: A rosary workshop would include an activity to learn about the events commemorated in each of the mysteries, followed by a living rosary experience. A palms workshop would include learning the story of Palm Sunday and making palm crosses (This can also be done as a service project at a nursing home.) Theological Reflection Workshop – This workshop introduces the concept of seeing God in the ordinary. It works especially well for families with children in 4th grade and older, but it’s possible to include younger children with some adaptation. It ends with a guided meditation using our senses. Theology of the Body Workshop – This workshop presents the TOB concept of respect for the human person as a gift from God, so it is appropriate for all ages. A video component and discussion sheet can be added as a home assignment to expand the TOB concepts for pre-teens/teens and their parents. Bible Timeline Workshop – This workshop is based on Jeff Cavins’ concept and explores the progression of the covenants from the time of Adam and Eve to the establishment of the Church. It’s basic enough for the whole family.
